There’s more to Rabs Vhafuwi than just spinning discs and churning music that sends his audience into ecstasy. Rabs Vhafuwi is more than a DJ. He is an astute entrepreneur, socialite, producer, record label owner, actor, tutor and motivational speaker.
Born Rabelani Madula, in Dzimauli Mukondeni in Venda, Limpopo Province, Rabs Vhafuwi as he is affectionately known, has established himself as one of the hottest DJs on South Africa’s entertainment platform. He is best known for his 2014 hit song – Count Your Blessings, a house gem that garnered him rave reviews as he had South Africa dancing to his tune. Since its release Count Your Blessings, in which Rabs Vhafuwi featured DJ Mizz, topped the charts at various radio stations including on Metro FM, Phalaphala FM, Mungana, Umhlobo Wenene, Ukhozi FM, Good Hope FM. The song is still on high rotation at a number of stations across the country.
Though Rabs Vhafuwi grew up in a house where music was the order of the day, it was not until he made his entry at higher education facilities that the music bug hit him. The Production Management graduate from Vaal University of Technology became DJ as fate would have it. One day one of his friends had a party but there was no DJ. Enter Rabs Vhafuwi. He had the audience eating out of the palms of his hands. The compliments he got from those in attendance helped him discover that there was talent in his passion.
Upon completion of his studies in 2004, Vhafuwi took the corporate route. He empowered himself with business studies from various institutions while working for several companies. Throughout, he did not neglect his musical talents. He kick started his professional career as a DJ in 2009. Years later something peculiar happened.
“I was struggling to collect music that I want on my sets. I would get 100 songs but find one that is interesting. I said to myself the music I want is not there. Then and there, I thought if the music I want to play is not there, then let me make it,” he says.
In 2012 he released his first EP and never looked back. The year 2014 was arguably the best year for Rabs Vhafuwi as he dropped his first album Count Your Blessings. The song was here, there and everywhere. Rabs Vhafuwi has graced several stages locally and internationally with his craft and has played alongside some of the top DJs in the industry. As ardent jazz aficionado, Rabs Vhafuwi loves to jazz up his sound with an element or melody influenced by jazz.
Rabs Vhafuwi has not confined himself behind the desk. He has grown in leaps and bounds. He is the founder of his own recording label FreezeTheMoment Production. His company is also multifunctional. It focuses on music, entertainment, video, photography and graphic design. The label has on its books the likes of DJ Mrendi. Under his company, Rabs Vhafuwi also teaches and grooms budding DJs through his music production Programme.
In November 2015 he had the privilege of an international tour in the UK. He was well received as an international artist. He had a live mix on one of the biggest radio “Bang Radio” and also had an interview with The Black List Newspaper. He played in London, and Birmingham where both clubs were packed to the max.
Rabs Vhafuwi, who has made appearances on popular SABC2 soapie Muvhango and SABC ! Generation The Legacy, is passionate about inspiring South Africans to pursue their dreams. When he is not making music, he is out doing motivational talks at schools and church. He does charity work at orphanages. Rabs Vhafuwi has been featured on a number of media platforms – online, print, radio and television including Sun Rise ETV, Sunday Sun, Sowetan, Morning Live SABC 2 to name a few.
In 2015 Rabs Vhafuwi won Best of the Best Entertainment at the annual FAME SA Awards in Limpopo.
2016 November, Rabs released yet another banger of an album. This album features a lot of artists including International acts such as Jonny Miller from UK London and D‐Malice also from UK in Croydon, and not forgetting Kora Kalenda from Congo. Locally he features Busiswa from Kalawa, Cjay, MrMo, Claudine Marshal, Lungisa from the idols just to name a few.
2016 December Rabs Ended up the year with his first Annual baby Event called The Rabs Vhafuwi Show. This event aims to uplift local artist and also leave the Rabs Vhafuwi Legacy in the future in Venda. It will be hosted every year on the 31st of Dec around Venda. He also has his clothing brand which he just launched recently. Rabs’s motto is, “Do anything to the best of your ability or don’t do it at all 2017 Rabs won the Best Dance Single at LIMA AWARDS from his song titled “Lets Go To China”. Awarded Best Cocktail Cruise Supportive Dj at SUCU Media 2017 November.
